I’ll be honest, I wasn’t too excited about this game at first. When I first heard of it, I was like “A spin-off? Meh.” I don’t do a lot of gaming, but speaking from my anime experience, I’m not usually into things like spin-offs. (Although I like A Certain Scientific Railgun much more than A Certain Magical Index, but that’s another thing entirely.) I’m even more reluctant to invest in a spin-off game than in a spin-off anime, because it’s so time-consuming. But after doing some quick reading around, it seems like people are saying that Strikers is more of a direct sequel to the original P5. More importantly, after watching the trailers I realized a few things that made me think “Okay, I’ll buy this.”
First: I really love these characters. After playing/watching P5 and P5R, I came to relate to them, care for them, and even cosplay them (Ann and Kasumi). I was a little disappointed to hear that none of the Royal-specific characters would make an appearance (I love Kasumi so much!), but I’m still excited nonetheless!
Second: It looks fun! Usually, if I’m kind of interested in a game, I’ll watch a video of all the cutscenes. But when I watched someone play Persona 5, I said “Wow, this looks fun! I actually want to play this first hand.” And when I watched the trailers for P5S, I found myself eager to play it.
Third: New story. Part of why I didn’t go for KH: Melody of Memory was that I felt like there wouldn’t be that much new content (I mean, it does have “Memory” in the name). I enjoyed the demo, but in the end I didn’t think I’d get much out of it. But that’s just my personal opinion, and I encourage KH fans to check it out anyway if you haven’t already. In the case of Strikers, however, it’s a whole new story and I’m interested to see my familiar favorites in a different scenario.
So, with all of that in mind, I caved and bought the digital deluxe edition. Now, if you didn’t know, the digital deluxe edition (at least for PS4 and Steam, I’m not sure about Switch) comes with 4-day early access. So while it technically comes out February 23rd, purchasing a digital deluxe edition will give you access to the game on February 19th. Personally, I’ve never had any games with early access like this before. Is this common? When I purchased it on my PS4, it allowed me to opt-in to have it start downloading on like the 17th, so that it would be ready to play on the 19th, so I know it’s legit. I just haven’t seen it before. Also, I only saw this perk listed for PS4 and Steam digital deluxe editions. I didn’t see anything similar for physical deluxe editions. I just want to make that clear.
Are you looking forward to Strikers?
